Aliens roundup

It all started when Geoff Herndon built this awesome Alien. then Kevin Fedde built a Power Loader to go with it. The two MOCs certainly look awesome together. The only problem with that is, of course, that the Alien isn't a queen. Wait, I spoke too soon.

Last but certainly not least, in an unrelated incident, "2x4" built a pretty slick Sulaco.

The Manticore will Mant your Core... wait, what?

I've been on a bit of a building kick lately, and today I finished a starfighter just in time for the "Show Us What You Got" contest that the Starfighters group on Flickr is holding. I present to you, the Manticore. In the immortal (huh?) words of my crappily written backstory that I tacked on at the last minute,

The Manticore modular combat platform was designed to fill several roles with one ship. Its powerful twin magnetically-vectored plasma drives enable it to be both swift and agile while carrying diverse loads. Various weapons packages, cargo - even evacuees from damaged ships - can be carried using the modular coupling system between the ship's forward prongs and under the cockpit. The Manticore seen here has been fitted with a heavy antimatter cannon mounted for an assault mission. The plasma cannons on either side of the ship also pack quite a punch in dogfight situations.

Now I have to go finish that essay that I forgot about until today.

Oh, and our own Jacob has also built a fighter for that contest that I will now link to in really tiny text so that he can't blog it. Muahahahaha.

EDIT BY JACOB: TRY ME, BRAH

by MEmory

EDIT BY DEAN: I'M NOT A BRA!

EDIT BY JACOB: THAT ISN'T WHAT I MEANT. GOOD SIR, YOU NEED TO UPDATE YOUR KNOWLEDGE ON THE COLLOQUIAL VERNACULAR.

EDIT BY DEAN: I KNEW THAT WASN'T WHAT YOU MEANT. GOOD SIR< YOU NEED TO UPDATE YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF SARCASM.

EDIT BY JACOB: MY CHARMING FRIEND, I TOO WAS EXHIBITING SARCASM OF TEH HIGHEST CALIBRE. WE COULD CONTINUE ON LIKE THIS FOREVER, IF YOU WISH, BUT I GROW MOST TIRED OF IT. ALSO, USE THE CAPS LOCK INSTEAD OF HOLDING DOWN THE SHIFT KEY.

EDIT BY DEAN: EXCELLENT DEDUCTION, MY DEAR WATSON. BUT CAPS LOCK IS OF THE DEVIL.

EDIT BY JACOB: I'M HOLMES, YOU'RE ROBIN.

The cavalry has arrived.

As you may have been able to tell from the somewhat cavalier (pun intended) title, I'm rather proud of my latest creation: the RAMM Hauptpanzer, or Main battle Tank.

It took me several months to build, though mostly because I was too lazy to set up a Bricklink account and buy the cheese-wedges for the feet (and since I bought 60, I went crazy with them on the rest of the MOC as well.) My personal favorite details are the ladder on the left front leg and the engine greeblies (though I don't have any pictures of those because I added the radiators on top of them without a means of temporary removal.)

Classic Space and Classic Gaming

Peter Reid (of Neo-Classic Space fame) showed to us today on flickr a new ship and some fresh figs. He tosses the traditional coloration out the window which proves very refreshing. And as always with Pete, take a good look at the backgrounds as well.
On the other hand, brickshelf member "Nidaram12" made a very nice R.O.B.

Moko's MGS Minifigs

I'm not a huge fan of the Metal Gear Solid games, but these minifigs caught my attention. It looks like the latest additions to this folder are Fortune, Liquid Snake, and Solidus Snake. Check them out.

The Town of Sproket, and some other Steampunk Minifigs

Mark Stafford (Nabii on brickshelf) made a very awesome Steampunk Diorama (which includes that bot that Jacob blogged). While some details I absolutely love (The Tavern, This Mech), I feel like the nicely tiled ground could use some more detail and the scene could have had a bit more movement in it. Take a gander yourself.

The now-famous Morgan19 (Jamie Spencer) first gained attention for his steampunk models for their custom-painted gold parts (and amazing construction!). He takes that customization skill and brings it to a minifig level with a little brickshelf gallery.

Some Randacrap

Andrew Lee (or onosendai, or wintermute) made a massive brickshelf uploading the other day of some MOC's he's had sitting around for a while. My favs:

brickshelf mijasper (who I always confuse with marakoesta...) made another of his little lovely scenes in Castles made of sand.

And finally, moko has a rather humorous jack sparrow fig. Not sure I like the face (don't know what would be better though) but the hair is nifty.

Yeh. That's it.

Weapons of the past and future (forget the present)

Chuck has a nifty futuristic bike, that while not terribly comfortable while riding, he has a rediculously cool fig to go with it, holding a beam sword similar to the one of the protagonist in the not-yet-released video game No More Heroes, by Suda51.

Also, brickshelf marakoestra, or Martin Jaspers, has updated his famous Characters folder. He's added some Barbarians (one with a very unique hammer...), a silver-and-black knight, and a few jolly soldiers sporting the new Star Wars helmets.

Via The Brothers Brick

Also, two neat new entries to the rover contest. I want to enter now!

GreenSamurai

NickGreat, who has some of the most amazing custom minifigs I've ever seen, has a new one!
The Green Samurai! Beautiful detail + color, along with some nifty parts usage (Green Goblin face for the torso armor, "Rat" head for the horse helmet, Lando's barge helmet...) Gotta love that green and gold.

It seems to be part of a little series he has, first the Black Samurai (with wicked looking wavy~sword), then his White samurai (nothing special there really, my least favorite), the Red Samurai (who's only specialty is the painted armor and goblin helmet), and then this one. He sure does love those Green goblin faces!

rocking chairs

These rocking chairs by brickshelfer mijasper are really cool. The way he uses flex tubes and minifig hands goes to great effect. He also uses other parts very well: A minifig shield in the first one, and what seems to be spongebob torsos in this one. The whips in this one are also a great touch.

Mijasper returns

A master fig builder (he should have been in my fig ALOCS...) has brought us two new installments: Van Gogh and Darwin. The Van Gogh isn't that new, but the easel is very nice. He added that and a few others to his "things" gallery.

Brass Goggles, among other things.

I received my new WIRED mag today. They had a "playlist" section- basically just 10 cool things that they had found. One of them cought my eye, a blog called "Brass Goggles." It's a blog about the more "real" side of Steampunk-- how cool is that? I'll add it to the "other stuff" link list.

ps-- I posted some new stuff [1] [2] [3] [4]

Doube ps-- Classic-castle'r and brickshelf E of Alshire has made some sweet custom figs based off one of my favorite old skool fighter dudes- Landsknechts! Great use of the rubber bands, and the picture at the end is sweet!

Triple ps-- One of my favorite spacers, Spook0114, has made a wicked awesome robotic defense thing. I love the round frame, and the legs look beefy and strong. AWESOME!

Jacob
Occasional driving force of the blog, self-proclaimed Lukas fanboy, and aspiring engineer, Jacob spends too much time building LEGO, not enough time practicing piano, and not nearly enough time doing school. He also enjoys long sentences. In the instance of blogging, he believes in quantity over quality, wherever quantity can be maintained.
Mike
One of the cofounders of YSAB, and the founder of YSA, Observing Mike actually being productive is a rare occasion. Mike enjoys making outlandish claims in relation to actually building, pretending he's actually sorting his collection, and making excuses for why he hasn't photographed his MOCs. In his free time he enjoys learning CSS from Spook, photography and poking badgers with spoons.
Dean
Occasional builder, occasional blogger, and full-time procrastinator. That's really the only way to describe Dean. He rarely gets anything done, but is a very active lurker. He's probably seen and liked your MOC, but just forgot he had a blog.
Erik
Erik is still a teenager.
Lukas
Lukas is tall, blond, mildly OCD, and doesn't build nearly enough as he would like to, thanks to school. He has a webpage.
Spook (Tim)
The resident codemonkey and graphics person. If something isn't working correctly, it's probably his fault. Fitting to his name, he doesn't post often, but someone has to do this stuff too, right? Spook does build with laygoes, and has his own blog as well.
