Well done, John.
I was going to write a big post about Brickcon 2009, but I just don't have very much to say. I would have more to add if I were the type that took pictures of other people, but alas, I am not. Anyway, it's been covered already by Jordan and the twees. Oh, however,
It's a restaurant. Pure. Comedy. Gold.
I arrived Thursday afternoon and spent most of the day setting up this project, along with a few friends:
My weekend activities consisted of clinging to people I deemed to be internet famous, eating pizza, and hanging out with Fradel Gonzales. As Rob (dasnewten) said, "There's definitely a fun factor with Fradel in real life that you don't get online." The Space tables proved an especially cozy hideaway this year, with an abundance of barriers from the public. Late Firday afternoon, Jordan brought Ean and me a bag of tiny mecha to play with. Happy fun times were had:
How was Brickcon 2009?
You don't even know, man. You don't even know.
It all started when Geoff Herndon built this awesome Alien. then Kevin Fedde built a Power Loader to go with it. The two MOCs certainly look awesome together. The only problem with that is, of course, that the Alien isn't a queen. Wait, I spoke too soon.
Last but certainly not least, in an unrelated incident, "2x4" built a pretty slick Sulaco.

Every once in a while, there comes along a build that reaches the limits of the genre, and smashes through them with amazing results. I believe Rob's gunship may be the best model of 2009. I'll have to think a while to back that up, but look at it.
Brian Kescenovitz posted the next Dawn Forge thing! Yay!

Okay, Soren has been building awesome stuff for a long time now, but this massive carrier is my favourite yet.
While I only estimate it to be between one and two feet long, the fact that it's between one or two feet of microship makes it huge. I'll add a link to more pictures as soon as he takes them. :D He's added more pictures, just click through his photostream from the main picture.

Everyone seems to be very excited over at TBB about the 2009 sets leak, but all the talk has been pirates, farmers, blah blah blah...
HAS NO ONE SEEN THIS?
Here's what I think.
1. It's clearly labeled an RC car. That means powered drive and steering.
2. The floating hands are controlling the car via a PF remote, and you can see the IR receiver poking up just in front of the rear spoiler.
3. The chassis is only eight studs wide. There is only one kind of motor you can fit in that kind of space and still have room for all of the detailing on top (in addition to a battery pack):
THE S MOTOR
Because of this A-wing:
I think it may actually be one of the best Star Wars models I've ever seen. Props to you, Jerac: I've always loved your building, but there's something about the level of polish here that just blows my mind.
"This was the last photo of the gathered family. Their bond was irrevocably harmed during the protracted battle over Pa Mech's estate, and Maggie Mech was shunned because of her inter-thematic relationship with some Bionicle thing."
