Impossible castle

Brixe63 has built this maze, a simplistic but puzzling build. The isometric camera angle really makes it pop. The decision to highlight the 1 x 1 slope ramps with a color is a good one. It is reminiscent of dungeon map out of a video game, the kind one would bring up to make out a path to the princess/warp portal/power up/level boss. That is a very, very good thing.

Over the past six month or so, Soren has been pumping out gems like these:

Chub Squad and ACT-02A Chub Tub

I believe the intent is for a table-top wargame, they are fun to look at and I am sure they must be equally fun to play with.

M2-A Tank

These two armored vehicles do a great job of standing out from the ordinary, cookie-cutter military models, of which I have stated my disdain for elsewhere.

Type 20 Tank

This guy's stuff has already earned plenty of the right kind of praise, so I won't re-iterate it here. Check them out!

Posting some town and castle, y'all

Because it happened again. And I said I would.

Woah what's this. MattJaster of the Twea Effect seams to be ripping our posts. This means YSAB will soon be featuring train MOCs.

hahah im not actually hating

and i dont say 'yall' either

Merry Christmas!*

Aaron Andrews (DARKSpawn) built a perfect little Christmas scene featuring a troll, orcs, a spider, and of course, a kitten.

On that note, I'd like to wish everyone a happy Kwanzaa, and promise to blog more come 2009.
YSAB is officially on break until January 2nd 2009.
Happy Holidays!

*Political correctness be dammed, I'll wish you what I want to wish you. Which is funny, as I'm not Christian.

Just Cause We're Spacers Doesn't Mean We Don't Blog Castle...

SlyOwl built a shanty town. Check out the use of treads as the roof on the shed.

Adrian Florea's Nedleh Point

Adrian Florea is at it again with a floating-rock like fantasy trading post titled "Nedleh Point." Be sure to look at all the details in this beautiful creation.

Dragonator's Ravine Tavern

The creatively named Ravine Tavern by Brickshelfer "Dragonator" is a pretty awesome piece of work. Were the battling goblins and knights removed, it'd actually make a rather nice vacation spot. I'd have fun climbing down those rocks...

Patrick Biggs has built a very nice Bionicle dragon.

Justin Vaughn's Brickarms take a trip to Mudulon IV, the mud planet.

WAY Better Than Frogspace!

Yes, TBB recently did a great (a and presumably time-consuming) post on cave racers, but the group pool has at least tripled since then. In particular, I would like to highlight Nathan Proudlove's collection (to date). Most of them are built to a particular theme, and they're all very creative.

+ Plus link to doll for added value.

Execution, the Good Kind.

So far as I can tell, there is nothing revolutionary about building a castle, but legoknight's Castle Leon is beautiful. No detail has been left out. Explore it for yourself.

Golem Attack by Adrian Florea

Infamous Adrian Florea has a stunning diorama in his typical style. Check out those golems, (which he posted a little while ago) the roof, and the cliff face! The stone hand emerging from the well, and the other from the rock wall are nice touches. And don't forget the Griffon! In a comment he says;

It's pretty much the fantasy of nature taking it's revenge on humanity.... by the use of magic, spawning these creatures right from under their feet. It might also be a hint as to how powerless we are in the face of nature and it's powers... Lots of interpretations.

He adds not to take that too deeply, but it's still awesome.

New Crap.

Come on guys, just blog once in a while.

Well, Nick isn't blogging, but he sure is building. 3 New RAMM additions, all of which are awesome.
Also, Stone-goblin on Brickshelf has a very nice castle/fort thing. On the outside, it isn't pretty, but the multi-colored roof is nice and the inside details are alot of fun.

Blue Skies

First one to rag on Hanson gets removed from the blogger list.
First, is this really cool tank thing, followed by a nice little farm built by TBB's own Josh

And of course, nnenn still builds
Well, that's it for now playas. I got work to do.

Musical Influence: Hanson.

Weapons of the past and future (forget the present)

Chuck has a nifty futuristic bike, that while not terribly comfortable while riding, he has a rediculously cool fig to go with it, holding a beam sword similar to the one of the protagonist in the not-yet-released video game No More Heroes, by Suda51.

Also, brickshelf marakoestra, or Martin Jaspers, has updated his famous Characters folder. He's added some Barbarians (one with a very unique hammer...), a silver-and-black knight, and a few jolly soldiers sporting the new Star Wars helmets.

Via The Brothers Brick

Also, two neat new entries to the rover contest. I want to enter now!

3.27.2007

yay more laygoes

Yes.
It is true.
Ry is done.
Yup. The 3vil skicraft that has been going on for far too long is complete! And I'd say it's awesomeness more than makes up for the late arrival*. It's just so simple. So 3vil. Big guns, mounted on precariously skimpy legs equals good. Imagine it coming straight at you....
the only thing you can see is that huge skull. and the guns. That's 3vil.

On the other hand, a more lively (PINK!) creation, by Y-bros-K (forget whether that's Nelson or Patrick...), is an interesting Sea Monkey diorama. Felix has been messing around with some more Sea Monkey Ideas as of late (...right?) I just love the pink castle. What would be even cooler is the whole castle... (It wouldn't have to be huge... but still. Maybe I should try.) That's all good and all, but the best part is the weird biomechanical creature the "professor" is riding, the Sea Squirt. It would have made a great entry to the creature contest...

EDIT: yes, Felix and company are re-inventing the Sea Monkeys.

Musical Motivation: Neutral Milk Hotel

I made a post

brickshelf "mrbrickbob" (who's website I'm afraid to visit) has made quite a nice Port Town. It's great, with lots of good architectural work, and very pretty buildings. Along with that is a simple crane (that seems to work), and without look at the shoddy photo editing, some very clean, nice interiors.

Great place for a Brikwars battle.

3.15.2007

Yeah....It's Been a While

I've been busy with school, and this awesome weather we've had, and being sick, and....life.
So anyway.
First, I like this castle cause of the use of that baseplate.
That's well done.
Second, a car i can't wait to see IRL.
Third, there isn't a third. Someone build something cool.

Castle MOCs

Check out this Very well done castle. I love all the tiled floors. The walls are well done as well, they look like real stone. The little table for the guards to sit at is a nice touch. I gotta get back to castle some day...

Another castle themed MOC, this time by Bshelf user Astuanax. LOTR is usually fun.

*Ignore the title for these two tidbits*
Cute lil bot
Keg rack (Chuck's space kegs are getting a fair bit of use)

Can't we love both?

Moyblik is going on strong! Woo-hoo!

I have two things. One is castle, from a fairly random brickshelf gallery, Dandily, but it sure is pretty. He made a beautiful lighthouse, and apparently the light is a dragon! The Vikings brought him some tasty food. It's simple, but very well made and looks great.

On the other hand, Jerrac, one of my favorite spacers, has made another wonderful microscale ship, a miner, as he calls it. He always has excellent colorization and contrast, as well as sculpting and SNOT. This is no exception-- great job!!

Musical Motivation: The Shins

Wow 3 posts today

Dunno if that's good or bad... to fast for "The People" or lots of good enthusiasm to post (I'm watching you chuck!)

Oh well. Mike Crowly ("Count Blockula" to most) has this ongoing "Turtles Versus Crabs!" thing going on, and the king of the Turtles is none other than Bowser, the koopa king! He also has a green version, which he will use somehow.

On another note, brickshelf Athos (and member of classic-castle) has a nifty series of vignettes going, each letter representing a different midevel occupation. Here is [G] [B] [S]
Dunno if he's gonna make it through the whole alphabet. X, Y, and Z could be hard. And O. And Q.

Musical Motivation: Weird Al

Brass Goggles, among other things.

I received my new WIRED mag today. They had a "playlist" section- basically just 10 cool things that they had found. One of them cought my eye, a blog called "Brass Goggles." It's a blog about the more "real" side of Steampunk-- how cool is that? I'll add it to the "other stuff" link list.

ps-- I posted some new stuff [1] [2] [3] [4]

Doube ps-- Classic-castle'r and brickshelf E of Alshire has made some sweet custom figs based off one of my favorite old skool fighter dudes- Landsknechts! Great use of the rubber bands, and the picture at the end is sweet!

Triple ps-- One of my favorite spacers, Spook0114, has made a wicked awesome robotic defense thing. I love the round frame, and the legs look beefy and strong. AWESOME!

Jacob
Occasional driving force of the blog, self-proclaimed Lukas fanboy, and aspiring engineer, Jacob spends too much time building LEGO, not enough time practicing piano, and not nearly enough time doing school. He also enjoys long sentences. In the instance of blogging, he believes in quantity over quality, wherever quantity can be maintained.
Mike
One of the cofounders of YSAB, and the founder of YSA, Observing Mike actually being productive is a rare occasion. Mike enjoys making outlandish claims in relation to actually building, pretending he's actually sorting his collection, and making excuses for why he hasn't photographed his MOCs. In his free time he enjoys learning CSS from Spook, photography and poking badgers with spoons.
Dean
Occasional builder, occasional blogger, and full-time procrastinator. That's really the only way to describe Dean. He rarely gets anything done, but is a very active lurker. He's probably seen and liked your MOC, but just forgot he had a blog.
Erik
Erik is still a teenager.
Lukas
Lukas is tall, blond, mildly OCD, and doesn't build nearly enough as he would like to, thanks to school. He has a webpage.
Spook (Tim)
The resident codemonkey and graphics person. If something isn't working correctly, it's probably his fault. Fitting to his name, he doesn't post often, but someone has to do this stuff too, right? Spook does build with laygoes, and has his own blog as well.
