I don't care about the noob-stereotype that surrounds MOCpages; it's one of the few places dedicated elusively to Lego model presentation, even if some kiddies get in the way of you're browsing experience. Here's proof that the heart of Sean Kenney's dream is still beating:

There are nearly two hundred of you still checking here, so thank-you. My internet is better, I'm back from Brickcon, and most of my collection is sorted. Now feels like a good time to post.

Brickcon 2008 was great. I met a lot of really cool people, and I saw a lot of neat models. I had some interesting conversations with anyone unfortunate to acknowledge me, until they successfully shook me off during public hours. Some tidbits I learned at my first con:

- The public hours are total chaos, and should be avoided by ducking into one of the "Private Badge Areas" to listen to an interesting presentation.
- The best way to get around during public hours is by striding behind the tables, or, if you're feeling really cocky, in front of them.
- It is much easier to take pictures as a registered attendee than trying to get them from the visitor end of the stick.
- For that matter, consider taking your pictures five minutes before the doors open to the masses. That way, everything will be as ready as possible.

As I sort of promised, and way behind schedule, here are the galleries for the Space and Mecha layouts. Some of the pictures are a bit fuzzy, but I made a point of trying to get a picture of every single model in those categories. Enjoy!

Post-fest poodlidoos

I am experiencing the lego fan equivalent of post-traumatic stress disorder; post-fest lack of excitement disorder! [See Nannan's photos for the whole run-down] It has been a slow two days since the conclusion of Brickworld for me, but not for others. Nick Dean, for example, has whipped out a sniper vignette that includes a not-yet-released brickarms weapon, the M21!
In other news, Jeremy, on flickr, made a lovely diorama for the post-apoc "Picking Up The Pieces" contest. Check out that mech!

Apparently, the shape of a bull moose's palmate antlers contributes to it's incredible sense of hearing. Okay, let's go!




Mark Strafford's Sprocket Guard Clockbot instills both wonder and fear in me. Maybe it's those eyes, or the functional cannons, but I just can't imagine that these guys would have a hard time going haywire and shooting up the palace. Look at the parts usage here- the tap detail on the back is especially cool.

Brickshelfer Jasperitis, progenitor of more than a few military vehicles, has discovered my suspension study. He's making good use of it and crediting to boot! So, I'd like to give a shout out to Jasperitis to thank him for making use of my ideas- thanks!

5 creations. 5 builders. 5 BRICKSHELF GALLERIES OKAY LET'S GO!

Robbed made a post-apocalyptic diorama. While that is pretty nice, I much prefer the vehicles, especially the walker.

Larry-Lars has a (late?) entry to the FTBT steam-wars contest; A Steam Y-wing with nice details. Plus, look at the use of those boats!

The oft-blogged izzo has a beautiful dark bley drilling mech. I'd like to point out the slick SNOT around the 'face.'

Kidthor (who appears to be an avid mech builder) made an awesome 'desert mech.' I think what I love about this stout little guy is the use of dark tan (who doesn't love it?) and gears in the legs. The feet are nice as well.

Last but not least, endrju94 has a technic-fig scale flying vehicle reminiscent of Zach's Calloused Boxer. It's got some nifty details such as window panes for the windscreen, a cylinder built into the top of the hull, and a seat made out of a tire.

PANZER IN CAPS

One of my new favorite builders (shoulda included him in my 2007 awards thing...) is brickshelf Kaitimar. He's got some sweet stuff under his belt, be sure to check out his steampunk section especially.

Today, however, he has a playable hovercraft called "PANZER" which he says is, "The armored hovercraft from the short story Panzerboy." Well, there ya have it. Whatever it is exactly, it's really sweet. First of all, it's got a nice low-profile sculpt, some awesome engines, and third (and most importantly), check out all the playability in this badboy!

I need to try to make a model this playable sometime. I imagine this hovercraft zooming over post-apocalyptic waters, or in a brikwars battle, blasting the crap out of everything around it. Buce.

I don't really know how I'm going to make the list this year. Differently than last... we'll see.

So... what theme took off in 2007 more than anything? (even frogspace colon o) Microspace! That flickr group helped. Okay, so there was a lot of microspace this year. I think we all know who dominated the theme.

Best Microspace Overall:
Tim Zarki (spook)

It's obvious, just take a gander around. My award for best microspace creation also goes to his Khet Nasari relic, by the way. Oh spook how I envy you in almost every way.

Hmmm what to do next....

Oh! Post-apocalyptic was another theme to take off this year, after Tyler's initial diorama. He's dominated the genre from since then, and most of the other post-apoc creations have sucked. (read: most, not all. You can still build with confidence.)

Well, he's mah buddy, but he also makes awesome stuff. Just check around his RAMM (even the flying parts) and you'll know why he wins here. Oh, and he also fits into the other good post-apoc stuff. the land stuff- [1] [2] [3]

Best New Space Builder:

You might not have heard of him, but he makes some really sweet microscale, along with some other nifty junk.

Best Mecha:
Jehkay

Okay, I love his stuff like a madman, and as far as I can tell there wasn't a whole lot of mecha love this year. soren built a bit but not enough to cure my appetite, as usual. Jehkay just has such a cool style, and is finally breaking into color!

Best Whatever:
Nannan Z!

I just had to think of an award to show off all of his sweet stuff. Okay, those two are very recent, but they're my favorites.

Best Steampunk Creation:
Uhh... well. Hrmmm.

This is difficult. As much as I want to honor Kevoh's absolutely amazing fingobbins rock, I feel like Zach's Stinkbug deserves that spot as well. Well, at least I've linked to both of them.

Best Starcraft:
Nnenn

I don't care about the controversy, he builds amazing stuff.

Bleh. I don't know what else to add. to the finale!

Best Builder 2007:
Adrian Florea

Yep. He started 2007 off with his crazy X-wing thing, then joined CSF with his buggy for the contest. Adrian then catapulted himself into the larger sceme of things with his amazing half-track transformer, then a great microspace carrier, then a racer, then an ugly fighter, then a mech diorama, and ugh whatever he builds I love. Even Stimpy. Adrian has a great sense of form and SNOT in his creations, making complex unorthodox builds that are just... crazy.

and don't forget his latest, which is technically 2008.
