The Manticore will Mant your Core... wait, what?

I've been on a bit of a building kick lately, and today I finished a starfighter just in time for the "Show Us What You Got" contest that the Starfighters group on Flickr is holding. I present to you, the Manticore. In the immortal (huh?) words of my crappily written backstory that I tacked on at the last minute, 

The Manticore modular combat platform was designed to fill several roles with one ship. Its powerful twin magnetically-vectored plasma drives enable it to be both swift and agile while carrying diverse loads. Various weapons packages, cargo - even evacuees from damaged ships - can be carried using the modular coupling system between the ship's forward prongs and under the cockpit. The Manticore seen here has been fitted with a heavy antimatter cannon mounted for an assault mission. The plasma cannons on either side of the ship also pack quite a punch in dogfight situations. 

Now I have to go finish that essay that I forgot about until today.

Oh, and our own Jacob has also built a fighter for that contest that I will now link to in really tiny text so that he can't blog it. Muahahahaha.

This is a weaponized version of Chuck's racing mech

Pimpin'.

Jollen of Brickshelf has pimped out his already quite good White Racer. The result is excellent. From the simplistic greebling to the wonderful color blocking, the nice conbination of windscreens, the unobtrusive sloping of the engine pods, the awespme landing gear, and the great photography... wait, no, the photography isn't quite there, but it's better than a lot that I see that does have the backdrop behind the model.

Just a Notice

Everyone seems to be very excited over at TBB about the 2009 sets leak, but all the talk has been pirates, farmers, blah blah blah...



HAS NO ONE SEEN THIS?

Here's what I think.

1. It's clearly labeled an RC car. That means powered drive and steering.

2. The floating hands are controlling the car via a PF remote, and you can see the IR receiver poking up just in front of the rear spoiler.

3. The chassis is only eight studs wide. There is only one kind of motor you can fit in that kind of space and still have room for all of the detailing on top (in addition to a battery pack):

I don't actually know what the name stands for, but Don Wilson's SRK is a snazzy racer. And here on the YSA, we like snazzy.

I've Been On A Rap Kick Lately...

Which means a lot of crappy music, videos featuring swearing, inappropriate content and typically no talent. Such is the generic rap song.
What relevance is this to LEGO?

Actually, none whatsoever. But it was either that or I'd start talking about the latest female in my life.

The name says it all. It's a bunch of animals racing around.

"I Can Race in Caves too"

Nathan Proudlove built an absolutely amazing racer. The Lucky Strike was based off of this piece of concept art, this craft combines form and aesthetics beautifully. My favorite part is the orange stripe running the side. Most dashing indeed.

WAY Better Than Frogspace!

Yes, TBB recently did a great (a and presumably time-consuming) post on cave racers, but the group pool has at least tripled since then. In particular, I would like to highlight Nathan Proudlove's collection (to date). Most of them are built to a particular theme, and they're all very creative.

Jerak's Auriga 2

Jerak (or Jerrec, depends on who you ask) is at it again with a pseudo re-make of his Auriga space car. The Auriga 2! I gotta say I miss the side fins and color stripes, but the overall shape is nicer. Man I love racers.

Pepa Quin has been working a long time on his speeders, and now that he's gotten his hands on a Speed Racer windshield, his rendition of Luke's speeder is complete:



I think LEGO produced the piece, nay, started the whole Speed Racer line just for this purpose. It was destined.

3-color rule be DARNED

The infamous Nnenn astounds us with a ship who's colors should make your eyes hurt, but he uses them in such a way that it looks great. However, I feel the canopy could be structured better.
